Dr. (Prof.) NarendraNath Khanna, MD, DM, MNAMS, FACC, FESC, FSCAI, FCCP, FAPSIC, FIMSA, FEISI, FICC, FIAMS, is Advisor to Apollo Group of Hospitals in India and is working as Senior Consultant in Cardiology & Coordinator of Vascular Services at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi. Considering his extra ordinary contribution in the field of Medicine (Cardiology) and overall services towards community at large, the Honorable Governor of UP has also appointed him Honorary Professor of Cardiology at LPS Institute of Cardiology, GSVM Medical College, Kanpur. He has world wide recognition for his role and passion for “bringing the cutting edge technology to India and to bring cardiac care to the reach of common man.”
Dr Khanna was born on March 30th 1965 in a family of renowned medical professionals. He is a Graduate of King George’s Medical College, Lucknow. After completing his MD (Medicine) and DM (Cardiology), he went abroad for advanced fellowship training in Cardiology, Coronary & Vascular Interventions at Ochsner Medical Foundation, New Orleans, USA and at Poly-Clinique-des-Essey, France under eminent Cardiologists - Dr. Christopher J White, Dr. Steve Ramee and Dr. Michel Henry. He underwent advanced training on percutaneous aortic valve implantations, heart failure devices and radio-frequency ablation for sympathetic denervation of renal arteries.
In recognition of his knowledge and contributions, he has been conferred the Fellowships of American College of Cardiology, European Society of Cardiology, Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (USA), Asia Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology, American College of Chest Physicians and International Medical Science Academy.
Dr. Khanna has performed more than 9000 invasive / interventional procedures and has established interventional cardiology services (Cardiac catheterization labs and cardiac surgery theaters and Coronary Care Units) in many cities of India like Varanasi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Gorakhpur and neighbouring countries- Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Vietnam).
He has pioneered new techniques in the world for percutaneous mechanical pulmonary thrombectomy and techniques for Endovascular Treatment of Aortic Aneurysms, ischemia & gangrene of the limbs, Endovenous Laser Therapy and Below Knee Interventions in India. He is also one of the first to start Radial Angiography Programme and Mobile Cath Labs.
Dr. N N Khanna has put India on the global map of vascular interventions by creating the Asia Pacific Vascular Society and regularly organizing Asia Pacific Vascular Intervention Courses. This course is very popular and one of its only kind in entire Asia-Pacific region and is attended by delegates from all over the world. It is co-sponsored by the International Society of Endovascular Specialists (USA), Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (USA), Indian College of Cardiology, Cardiological Society of India, Endovascular Interventional Society of India and National Board of Examinations.
He is a distinguished teacher, prolific researcher and writer and has authored 22 book chapters and has about 120 publications in various national and international journals to his credit. He has been representing India globally. He is also a guide for Doctor of Medicine and is an Examiner for Superspeciality Doctorate Courses in Cardiology & Interventional Cardiology.
He is passionately involved in the Community Outreach Services and creating mass awareness towards cardiac diseases. For the last 13 years, he has been regularly reaching out to the masses of India, a fact which has been widely acknowledged by media and society at large. He has rendered free cardiac care in far and remote areas of North India and advised more than 50,000 cardiac patients. His relentless ambition of spreading awareness for prevention of heart disease makes him travel all over the country and to address people at various public forums despite his busiest schedule as cardiologist.
For his contributions, he has been conferred many awards like Glory of India Award, Rajiv Gandhi Award, International Gold Star Award, Distinguished Services Award by World Congress on Clinical & Preventive Cardiology, Crest by the Mayor of Dhaka & the Police Chief of Dhaka, Santhok Singh Memorial Award (By association of Surgeons of India), Purushottam Lal Award (by Indian Medical Association) and ‘The Best Citizens of India Award’. He was also judged as “Best and the Most Popular Doctor” by a survey done by Dainik Jagran. His scientific papers and cases have bagged the Best Challenging Case Awards in the entire world by Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutic and Cardiovascular Research Foundation (USA) in 2004, 2008, 2010 and 2011.
